PECS Communication Book- Starter Set for Children with Autism

I am SO excited to share with you my newest product.  If you are like me, you have PECs/communication cards/boards/flashcards everywhere! With that being said, I needed a way to better organize my communication tools.  SO here ya go... my newest product!

In this book there are 5 color option cover’s. The book has a title page that can be used for quick reference.

This book has over 500 Boardmaker PECS organized into 27 pages total! Each page has a visual tab so that it is easy to flip through the book.  (If you don't want tabs... you can just chop them all off!)

Using Boardmaker images, this book is a great introductory PECS tools that can be used in any classroom or home.  Here are all the pages to the PECS book:

This product comes with 2 different book variations, both with the same set-up and PECS icons.  The first version of the book (shown above) is the PECS book that can be printed and laminated with printed PECS pages.

The second PECS Communication book is a PECS book that can be assembled with velcro’d PECS.  The page grids are the same as the above book, but the PECS can be printed, cut, laminated and assembled for the pull apart version!

Here are a few Pictures of the pull apart PECS page option.  The PECS can all be pulled off and placed onto a sentence frame, handed to a person or however you choose to implement PECS in your own home program.

A little trick I use in my classroom is rulers! I use good ol' fashion wooden rulers as sentence frames.  Rather than buy those expensive plastic PEC sentence frames online, why not use a 50 cent ruler!  Using rulers with this PECS Communication Book is a great tool!

Both books come with the bundle on TpT!  This means you can easily adapt over the years for various kiddo's and their needs! (As we know, some kids would benefit from one book while the other would benefit from the opposite!)

Here are two video's for you :)

  2. Hi-

I am starting a 12:1:4 classroom with 5/6 autistic k-2 children. I would like to know if each child needs a velcro pull apart book or if they can share? We do not have access to color copies at school so it is my ink. Thanks- jenn

    1. Hi Jenn- typically if you are using these books as communication books, each kid should have their own. They should carry it around with them and it should be individualized for them (cover..stickers etc.) If you are using it to supplement instruction (numbers, colors, letters etc..) than they can share. Maybe you could take it to Kinko's to make your color copies!

  3. I love this idea. We put PECS books together for my classroom but they take time and often pictures fall off, get lost, etc. I love that this is also set up similar to a PODD book but has the PECs and appears to be a bit more simple and yet just as effective. Love love love and will be ordering some soon for my students. Thanks :-)

  5. I love this. It can be a BIG help to supporting communication, but PLEASE stop calling it a PECS book, because it is NOT! It is a Picture Communication aid/book. P.E.C.S stands for picture EXCHANGE communication system it is a very specific thought out planned curriculum system to teach communication (not just language) the EXCHANGE is the most important part of P.E.C.S this book is not that

    3. Hi Ryken- sorry they are too small for you. This is a communication book designed for the most advanced students. I do have plans to create books at the beginning and middle levels and these would include larger PECs!

  8. Hi! I love your site it has been a great help for me in trying to accomodate the autistic girl in my second grade class, especially since I am a teacher in Mongolia and we have no resources here. I was wondering if you could share where you got your PECs or possible sell a modifyable version of your communication book to me so I could translate it into Mongolia for my student to use? I understand that this might be a lot of work and if you can't its not a problem. Like I said, your site has already helped me out a lot!
