Individualized Working Card

· ·

So seriously, at the end of the day, I think my biggest motto is, “whatever works.”  We use everything for reinforcers in our class: air conditioners, straws, tape, paper, laying on the grass, no shoes etc.  What I love about positive reinforcement is the creativity we, as teachers, put into making these preferred objects/ activities work within the classroom environment!

I have a little girl who is obsessed in love with the math manipulative counting bears.  I mean OBSESSED in love with them.  She wants to take them, have them, touch them, do everything with them.
One little trick I want to share with you is this: when you use a working card, rather than the traditional happy faces or stars, substitute those for a high motivator.  For this girl, I pass out “bears” rather than happy faces.  She get’s SO excited when I say, “stay seated so I can give you another bear.”  While this does not work for every student, it occasionally works for that one special student!
Try it out with a kiddo 🙂 and let me know how it goes!
