My 2nd most popular post from 2014 was about my TEACCH system. I still love it and still implement it the same way as I did when I wrote this post…so read on!
TASK BOXES GALORE!!!
TEACCH is a very systematic system used to set up a classroom for student's with Autism. There is so much research supporting the use of TEACCH in the classroom. Here are a few links!
I have adapted the TEACCH system into my classroom and altered it to fit my student's needs. I have an intricate system of Task Boxes that we do on a daily basis. I change out the tasks every 4-6 weeks on a rotating basis so that students don't' get bored of them. I also incorporate monthly themes into my tasks.
My file folder and task boxes are color coded:
Yellow: Individual Goals
Purple: Fine Motors
Green: Language Arts
Orange: Monthly Themes
The task boxes all have a velcro spot on the outside for them to place the PEC on while they are working to complete the task.
The student's then take their task box to their seat and take out the contents of the task. All student's work as independently as possible to compete the task. Tasks range from math, language arts, pre-academic, sensory, monthly themes and pre-academic skills. (SEE BELOW FOR SAMPLE TASKS). Every task has a visual direction card for the student to follow.
Once the student has completed their task, they raise their hand for an adult to check their work. If correct, they take their task box back to the cubby to the correct space. They then place the task box PEC in the finish box before returning back to their schedule to check the next task.
HERE ARE SOME OF MY TASKS I HAVE IMPLEMENTED RIGHT NOW!

A lot of these materials are freebies I found online or on Pinterest. You can make anything into a task thats why I love the whole system. This is used as independent work for my class. I choose to not do any paper/pencil task boxes because we have writing and reading centers in the morning! I rotate my tasks through quite often.
I also have a few other TEACCH activities that can be used in your TEACCH system!
