Differentiated Writing Curriculum for Students with Special Needs/Autism

·
One of the most common questions I get from my followers is what curriculum I use.  The biggest challenge we face as special educators is differentiating curriculum for our students diverse needs.  Writing was one of the hardest areas for me because I found myself spending an hour a day prepping al late different levels and highlighting sentences for my students to trace.  After so much “wasted” time each morning I decided I needed to design a curriculum that could meet ALL of my students needs in an appropriate manner.  I designed this writing curriculum in a way so that each student can participate daily and write about the same topic.

This Differentiated Writing Curriculum Bundle is designed for beginning writers or students with special needs/autism. There are seven levels of Journal pages designed for this curriculum to allow for differentiation in your early childhood classroom or special day class. Students can progress to the next level Journal Design at their own pace. Every day teachers are provided a sample to post and use as a reference.
Level 1 consist of 180 student Daily Journals for students who have not yet learned to write or are in the pre-writing stages. Students simply cut out words and match them to the complete sentence. Students also color the picture.
Level 2 consist of 180 student Daily Journals for students who have not yet learned to write or are in the pre-writing stages. Students trace the sentence and color the picture.

Level 3 consist of 180 student Daily Journals for students who have not yet learned to write or are in the pre-writing stages. Students copy the sentence using the aide of letter boxes and color the picture.

Level 4 consist of 180 student Daily Journals for students who are in the pre-writing stages. Students copy the sentence from a model and draw a picture.

Level 5 consist of 180 student Daily Journals for students who are able read basic sight words and complete a “fill in the blank” page. Students fill in the blanks and draw a picture to illustrate their sentences.

Level 6 consist of 180 student Daily Journals in two different versions for students who are learning to write a sentence. Each day students are provided with a sentence frame to construct a sentence. There are two options: a filled in sentence frame for students to select their choices or a blank sentence frame for students to fill in to construct a sentence. Students also illustrate their sentence.
Level 7 consist of 180 student Daily Journals for students who are able to construct a simple sentence on their own. Students answer a question and illustrate their answer.
