What Is Easter?

Introducing Easter to your classroom doesn’t not have to be complicated. Simply read or project this social story to teach the holiday to the students. This social story addresses how different families celebrate Easter differently. It does mention that some families go to Church for the holiday, but it is not a religious lesson due to religious restrictions in the public school setting. To grab this social story for your Easter celebrations in the classroom, click here. I also have a social story about Easter egg Hunts to set expectations before this fun holiday tradition!

How To Manage Behaviors On Easter

Below are some lessons from my behavior basics curriculum that can be helpful this holiday season. School celebrations can get kiddos excited which can result in some non-preferred behaviors in the classroom. Review expected behaviors before the school celebration so that everyone is successful!

  • School Celebrations: This lesson is kind of a given if your school celebrates holidays. If you are having a celebration or performance the routine is going to be different. Review expectations before the celebrations begin!
  • Sharing: Are you doing an Easter egg hunt at school?  Be sure to teach kiddos to share their findings so that all students get an equal amount of eggs!
  • I Will not Throw things:  : this is a good lesson to review before any Easter celebrations in the classroom.  Often times when new things (eggs and candy) are introduced students get overly excited.  This excitement can manifests as someone throwing something.
  • Personal Space: Easter egg hunts can mean serious competition for some kiddos.  It is important to teach students to respect personal space of their peers during this fun activity!
  • Keeping my hands and feet to myself:  This lesson will come in handy for all of the crowded celebrations this holiday.  Picnics and Easter egg hunts can be crowded.  Remind students to keep their hands and feet to themselves during all activities!
  • Changes in School:   like all holiday celebrations, many routines change.  It is important to review with students ahead of time the important of flexible thinking and tolerating the changes in schedule due to the celebration!
