Fourth Of July Bin Ideas

I created two different fourth of July sensory bins using the same sensory bin fillers. Simple, bright and seasonal, perfect for the month of July!

  • RED pasta: I used three different kinds of pasta from my pantry.
  • BLUE cous cous: Israeli cous cous is a perfect sensory bin filler in m opinion. The tiny round shape of them make it fun for scooping and filling!
  • WHITE rice: Simply use un died rice
  • I just collected a few white/red things from around my kitchen to use as scoops, funnels and bowls. Items could also easily be found at dollar tree!
  • I got some fourth of July trinkets from Michaels to add to my bins.

Communication

Within two minutes Tucker learned a new word, STAR! He was so excited and kept showing them to me and saying the word. This was a quick reminder of how play can be so much MORE than just play! You could use sensory bins to hide vocabulary words, letters, numbers, color, shapes and SO much more. Communication is crucial.

Sensory bins are a great way to to facilitate communication and build seasonal vocabulary with students in the classroom. Consider pairing your fourth of July sensory bin with a communication board for the holiday like the ones shown below.

Materials I used:

Here are some of the items I used in my fourth of July sensory bins, as well as some similar items that could be used to replace some of the items I found around my kitchen.

Tucker is the perfect age for sensory bins right now. He is also definitely on the young side, so for now it is all about sensory exploration. We had a ton of fun with his fourth of July sensory bin and I plan on leaving it out for the whole month of July. As he gets older I will start to incorporate some pre academic skills mixed in with the sensory play. Sensory play and academics is a great way to have a fun Friday in your classroom!
