Ripping Through Behavior Visuals

·

Behavior visual tools are crucial for every classroom because independence is always the goal. These ripping through behavior visuals can help students visualize various strategies. These can help them be successful in the classroom. In my opinion, you can never have too many visuals. The more visuals you provide, the less verbal prompts are needed.

Less verbal, more visual!

When I was in the classroom I had one student who just ABSOLUTELY refused any form of behavior visual.  You name it, he tossed it.  He had been handed the same things for years and by the time he came to me, he was just DONE with it.

One day when he was at my work center I decided to really quickly draw a visual on a notecard I had lying around and I just ripped off a piece of the visual as he completed each task.  HE LOVED IT.  It was something new, it was motivating, and to him it wasn’t a “behavior visual.”

From there on out, I was ripping paper with him every day whenever he needed it.  Over time I was able to fade intervals and transition him to just verbal praise.  But, these handmade ripping visuals helped him SO MUCH in the transition to independence.  I spent so much time drawing the visuals by hand, I never thought to just create some easy printable templates to save time.. That is how the idea behind this new product came about.

What Are These Rip Behavior Visuals?

These visuals offer an alternative option of behavioral support. Different visuals are offered in the countdown format to help students visualize the goal of the visual. Because independence is the goal, teach students to rip through the visual on their own or staff can do this for them. These visuals come in 5 and 10 count visuals. They also come in horizontal and vertical options to meet the needs of student & staff preferences.

Because different students have different needs, all tools come in vertical and horizontal format. All tools come in 5 and 10 count options as well. Be sure to look at the video to see exactly what’s included:

Who Can Use These Rip Behavior Visuals?

These behavior visuals can be used with any student. For some students, velcro and laminated visuals can be too stimulating and distracting because they can be played with. Some students are resistant to visuals that have been used over and over again. These are a perfect alternative option and can strategically be used when extreme behaviors call for a new tool. These rip behavior visuals are also great for teachers and staff who do not want or have the means to laminate and velcro visuals. These visuals also may be beneficial to older students who do not like carrying around laminated visuals in front of their peers.

When Can You Use These Rip Behavior Visuals?

These visuals can be used throughout the school day whenever the need sees fit. Simply print these visuals and store in the classroom. No prep required for staff! Where can you use these behavior visuals? These visuals can be used everywhere because behaviors don’t discriminate!

Why Should You Use These Rip Behavior Visuals?

Visual supports are a tool that can be used to help build independence. Our ultimate goal as educators is to teach students how to self cope with emotions because we want them to become as independent as possible in all areas. Various visual tools are the stepping stones to building independence. These can be added to your tool belt of tools!

How Do You Use These Rip Behavior Visuals?

Simply present the visual to the student when a student is demonstrating a behavior in need. As the student breathes, transitions, completes a task, waits or does what is expected of them rip off a piece of the visual. This will help the student to visualize their progress to reach their goal.
