What Is Veteran’s Day?

Veteran’s Day is not discussed in a lot of classrooms because a lot of people do not consider it a “big” holiday. This couldn’t be further from the truth! Our veterans deserve to be celebrated by our students. I like to discuss the Veteran’s Day all month long. I do this because I want students to understand why they are celebrating the holiday. Introduce the meaning of Veteran’s Day with this social story.

Veteran’s Day Picture Books

When I was in the classroom I used picture books for everything! I loved incorporating picture books into my lesson plans because it made learning so much fun. You can also read picture books to help students understand the Veteran’s Day! Display them proudly for the month of November! Here are some of my favorite picture books for Veteran’s Day . Read these all month long!

Communication on Veteran’s Day

Communication should always be a priority in the classroom.  We do not want to limit communication for our limited verbal speaking students. There is nothing worst then planning an activity for your students without considering communication aides.  All students should be able to participate in all of your holiday and seasonal activities too.  I created a communication board for Veteran’s Day. It is filled with common words to build communication opportunities in the classroom since this is always a priorities goal. This can also be used at home and in the community during the Veteran’s Day celebrations!

Veteran’s Day Videos and Songs

I also like incorporating videos and songs into the holiday celebration. Here are two fun songs/dances for the Veteran’s Day in your classroom! These are perfect to spice up morning meeting or to create brain breaks in November! They also help add some movement into your day!
